Payers and billing confidence
Ambulance coverage is case-specific. Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial plans may cover eligible trips to or from a hospital for an acute issue when medical necessity, pickup and destination, plan rules, and other requirements are met. Recurring ambulance trips for dialysis or wound care may also qualify and often require prior approval. Routine appointments, outpatient services, and preventive care are usually not covered as ambulance benefits. A transport request does not guarantee payer coverage.
Patriot EMS bills wheelchair and ambulatory mobility trips privately or the healthcare facility pays for them; Patriot EMS does not bill Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial insurance for these mobility trips.
